I’m a psychotherapist BASED in MANCHESTER CITY CENTRE and I help people with depression, anxiety and low self esteem explore their problems, understand what causes them and change their behaviour.

Are you depressed but don’t really understand why?

You have a job, friends, you go out. From the outside you look like you’re successful, but on the inside you feel like there is something wrong with you.

Do you struggle with relationships?

You want to connect with people but you always seem to find the wrong people in relationships. Or when you are in a relationship, you struggle to trust the other person and don’t understand what they would see in you.

Do you experience your emotions as overwhelming?

You find it hard to get over things in the way other people describe and replay them for hours, days or months. Maybe you have panic attacks or you try and shut yourself off from your feelings by putting them in a box and ignoring them. Some people experience emotional flashbacks which can be confusing and scary (this can be a symptom of CPTSD).

Would you like to understand yourself better?

Would you like to learn how to improve your relationships with partners, family and friends by clearly communicating what you want or need and stop thinking it’s your fault when somebody treats you badly? Would you like to be able to stand up for yourself and tell others when they are hurting you? Would you like to improve your self esteem so that it is not subject to someone else’s opinion, so that you know you are ok without needing other people to approve of you?

Therapy can help you learn to recognise, express and tolerate your emotions

When we learn to do this, it becomes less necessary to turn difficult emotions back in on ourselves and self harm by eating, drinking, cutting, shutting off or using other coping methods to deal with them. Once triggers are identified, they can be more easily recognised and we can work on helping you to cope better with being triggered.

You can learn to replace the negative voice inside your head with a more supportive and positive one, so that you no longer feel the need to run away from your own thoughts.

Who i work with

I have a special interest in working with people with depression and those who have suffered from childhood trauma especially emotional abuse including people who suspect they have or have been diagnosed wth CPTSD (complex post traumatic stress disorder).

I also work with a wide range of issues including self esteem, relationship problems, coping with past abuse, identity, questioning or coming to terms with your sexuality, grief, eating problems and addictions. In fact it's common for people to have several things they are struggling with, so you might feel you're depressed but also have panic attacks and low self esteem.

I will be happy to work with you regardless of your sexual origination, gender identity, nationality, religion, age, race or disability. My office is wheelchair accessible and my practice is LGBTQ friendly.

Can I help you?

When I speak to new clients, one of their first questions is normally 'can you help me?' To ascertain whether I can help I need to know a bit about what you're struggling with. You can email me or call to discuss your requirements. If you email, you'll be asked to provide a  a brief overview of your issue such as 'I'm depressed but I don't know why. It's been going on for a few years now and sometimes I feel a bit better but it always seems to come back'. Or it might be 'I binge eat when I'm unhappy at work and I don't know how to stop. I end up feeling like I'm a terrible person but I don't know where that comes from and I'm fed up of hating myself'.

Once you've contacted me, I'll offer you for a 20 minute chat to discuss what you're looking for. It's free of charge and there's no obligation.

What happens next?

In our phone consultation, I'll ask you how long you think you've been having symptoms, if you've ever received a mental health diagnosis perhaps from a doctor, psychiatrist or psychologist and whether you're on any medication. I'll also ask if you self harm or have suicidal thoughts and if you've been hospitalised for either of these. Having suicidal thoughts or self harming doesn't mean we can't work together. I just need to gather information to check that we're a good fit. We might need to involve your doctor, psychiatrist or other mental health professional depending on the kind of support you require and I'm happy to liaise with them if you give me permission to do so.

If I can help you, I'll invite you to a face to face session at my office in Manchester City Centre or on Skype if you can't come to my Manchester office. Our first session will be an opportunity for you to see how psychotherapy works and how you feel about working with me. If you don't feel like we're the right fit after our first session, that's absolutely fine. I'll be happy to help you find someone who would be a better fit if you'd like me to.

If I don't think I'm the right therapist for you, I'll try and provide you with an alternative option. This may be someone with a different skill set or who better fits your requirements.

If you're ready to arrange a no obligation free 20 minute chat to see if I can help you can call me on 07853490358 or send me a message and I'll get back to you within 24 hours (unless it's a weekend or a holiday).
